John Garnet married Mary Arnold. John Garnet John came to Hingham about 1650, and in 1656 had land granted to him in the south part of the town. Whether he was a connection of the early Garners, or Gardners, of Boston is uncertain, as but little information has come down to us relating to his early history. The christened name of his widow, whom he married at Boston, 10 April 1651, was Mary (Arnold or Arnald). She survived him, and married secondly, 18 June 1669, Nathaniel Chubbuck. John died 24 November 1668. The inventory of his estate was appraised by John Tower and John Ripley, 28 April 1669, at £44,11s. and included 'the Goats that have been sold to pay debts and maintain the family.' Wife Mary administratrix. Children, all born in Hingham, were -- i. John, bt. July 17, 1652. ii. Francis, March 31, 1653. iii. Mary, Nov. 19, 1654. married Dec. 5, 1683, Nathan Farrow. iv. Samuel, March 23, 1655-56. v. Deborah, July 5, 1657. vi. James, Feb. 4, 1659-60. vii. Stephen, Aug. 14, 1662. viii. Thomas, June 5, 1664. married Dec. 1705, Judith Tower. ix. Robert Dunbar left a will on 13 September 1693; 'to wife Rose a living in my now dwelling-house, and the use of all the land, which I give to my sons Joseph and Joshua, the whole term of her keeping the name of Dunbar; and in ease of necessity she may sell or let said land for her maintenance.' To sons John, Joseph, and Peter, the home land. To s. Joshua 'the rest of my lands as far as the river.²' He died on 19 September 1693 at Hingham, Plymouth, Massachusetts.
