"HIGHLAND - Winifred A. Esser, age 90, of Highland, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, at Bloomfield Manor, surrounded by her loving family. Winifred was born on Aug. 19, 1915, in Castle Rock Township, to Edward and Davall (Muldowney) Hudek, and was a 1932 graduate of the Highland High School. She married Leo Esser of Highland on Nov. 23, 1936, and the coupled farmed near Highland. Winifred also worked at St. Joseph's Hospital, Bloomfield Manor and was a cook at the Highland High School for many years. Winifred was a member of St. Philip's Catholic Church, the Altar Society, the National Society of Catholic Foresters and a former member of the Highland Women's Club. She enjoyed gardening and flowers and time spent with family and friends. Winifred is survived by, four sons, Pat (Judy) Esser of Highland, Richard (June) Esser of Clinton, Mike (Terry) Esser of Highland, and Dan (Evelyn) Esser of Highland; a daughter-in-law, Joan Esser of Madison; a son-in-law, Carlos Ruiz of Plano, Texas; 16 grandchildren, Dennis, Kelly, Jeff, Jim, Chris, Andy, Jake, Ken, Scott, Stephanie and Kate Esser, Samantha Piernot, Tony Pink, and Monica, Gabe and Raquel Ruiz; 11 great grandchildren, Julie, Jordan, Katelyn, Michael and Victoria Esser, Jeffery, Jessica, and Jared Beighley, Ali and Logan Sieling and Jason Pink; a great-great-grandson, David Evans; a sister, Dorothy Huza of Highland; a brother-in-law, Herbert Hahn of Fennimore as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by, her husband, Leo, on July 16, 2005; her parents; a son, Chuck Esser in 2000; a daughter, Joyce Ruiz in 2004; a brother, Donald Hudek; and a sister, Mary Jean Hahn. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, at ST. PHILIP'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Highland. Father Kenneth J. Frisch will officiate with inurnment in St. Philip's Cemetery. Friends may call at the MCGUIRE-PETERSON-HOUCK FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be held at 8 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Winifred Esser Memorial Fund would be greatly appreciated."
