Ziba Chessman and Deborah White Blanchard.2 Edward Blanchard Chessman married Emily White Orcutt, daughter of Asa Orcutt and Olive Belcher, on 19 April 1851 at Weymouth, Norfolk, Massachusetts.4 Edward Blanchard Chessman was bootmaker in 1855.5 He and Emily White Orcutt appeared on the census of 1860 at Weymouth, Norfolk, Massachusetts. Edward Blanchard Chessman began military service on 7 September 1863 He was drafted at the age of 34 into Company H, 32nd Infantry Regiment.6

     King Ethelred II (?) was buried at St. Paul's Cathedral, London, England. He also spelled Aethelred, byname Ethelred The Unready, or Aethelred Unraed born 968? died April 23, 1016, London king of the English from 978 to 1013 and from 1014 to 1016. He was an ineffectual ruler who failed to prevent the Danes from overrunning England. The epithet 'unready' is derived from unraed, meaning 'evil counsel.' The son of King Edgar (ruled 959?975), Ethelred ascended the throne upon the assassination of his half brother King Edward the Martyr in March 978. Widespread suspicion that Ethelred may have had a part in the murder created much of the distrust and disloyalty that undermined his authority. Hence, there was no unified defense when the Danish invasions resumed in 980. Nearly all of the country was ravaged, and Ethelred's efforts to buy peace only made the invaders more rapacious. When they did begin to settle down in towns, Ethelred provoked further invasions by launching a massacre of Danish settlers (Nov. 13, 1002). By the end of 1013 the Danish king Sweyn I had been accepted as king in England, and Ethelred had fled to Normandy. After Sweyn died in February 1014, Ethelred's council of advisers invited him to return to the throne on condition that he agree to satisfy their grievances. At the time of Ethelred's death in 1016, Sweyn's son Canute was ravaging England. Ethelred was succeeded by his son Edmund II Ironside (ruled 1016); one of his other sons ruled England as Edward the Confessor from 1042 to 1066. Encycopedia Britannica. These are to certify that James Tower, aged thirty-seven years, born at Scituate, came before me, one of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the said county, and acknowledged to have voluntarily enlisted himself to serve his Majesty, King George the Second, in the abovesaid service ; and that he also acknowledged he had heard read unto him the second and sixth sections of the articles of war against mutiny and desertion, and took the oath of fidelity mentioned in the articles of war . JO. WILLIAMS on 25 May 1768.3 He [CR:]James Tower' served also in the War of the Revolution . He was in Capt . Jotham Loring's company of Hingham on the 19th of April, 1775, and did thirteen days' duty . He was in Capt. Seth Stower's company, on duty in Hull from May 22 to Aug . 1, 1776 , and is credited with one month and twenty-seven days' time . In a pay-roll of Capt. Jabez Wilder's half company, James Tower is credited with six days in February, 1778, doing duty at Hull. In the muster-roll of the independent company stationed at Hingham, commanded by Capt. James Lincoln, from May 5, 1775 , to Jan . 1, 1776, is the name of James Tower, with a credit for seven months and four days, and thirty-six miles of travel, with a payment of L 16 5s 8 1/2d . He was in Capt . Job Cushing's company at Tiverton, R .I . , July, 1779, and is credited with thirty-nine days' service . In 1781 he was in Capt. Elijah Baker's company in Rhode Island, and served three months and twenty-four days. On the 4th of March, 1776, he was in Capt. Pyam Cushing's company for four days ' service at Dorchester, marching thirty-six miles . In 1778 he was in Capt . Elias Whiton's company, doing guard duty in Boston one month and twenty days, for which service he received L8 6s. 8d. In 1779 he was on the same duty in Capt . Caleb Champney's company for two months and twenty-six days. It will be seen by referring to the date of his birth that he was fifty-two years old when hostilities began, and fifty-eight years old when his last term of duty was performed. on 18 April 1776.3 He and Lucy Dunbar were engaged on 9 April 1780.2 James Tower married Lucy Dunbar, daughter of David Dunbar Jr and Margaret Bennett, on 23 May 1780 at Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts.4 James Tower died in 1796.
